Brina Potvin - 2nd Runner-Up

Brina Potvin, a 17 year old rising Senior and Varsity Football Cheerleader at Chattahoochee High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, is striving to do her part to bring suicide Out of the Darkness and make a difference in the lives of others. As she promotes the Out of the Darkness Community Walks taking place across America, she continues to spread a message of hope in order to help save lives by letting those in crisis know that there are people who care, and someone they can call for help and emotional support.

In February 2008, Brina worked with her high school principal, Tim Duncan, and PTSA Board members to plan/organize/implement the 1st CHS Suicide Prevention and Awareness Week, where she spoke to 2000 of her peers in special assemblies. She recently appeared on the nationally televised morning show: Every Day with Marcus and Lisa, where she talked about issues teens face today as well as suicide prevention and awareness. Over the past year and a half, she has communicated to well over 35,000 people about topics such as modesty, purity, peer pressure, the importance of leadership development in teens, and getting involved in community service through various philanthropic efforts.

Along with her heavy academic/extracurricular schedule, Brina has four part time jobs, which includes her passion of working with children and teens as a Camp Counselor at Camp YMCA High Harbor during the summers and as a Graduate Assistant Instructor in Fall/Winter seasons with The Cotillion Group (www.thecotilliongroup.com) teaching middle school student’s social skills, manners/etiquette, and ballroom dancing. She worked with her mom to develop a Leadership Development/Modeling program for The Cotillion Group, and is currently researching content to write her 1st book focusing on teen leadership.
